Some time ago now I started a comic project that, I guess, was very self-indulgent, but tried to create a sort of world I’ve always been drawn to. It tried to span a lot of (arguably hackneyed) elements; inter-dimensional crossover, sky islands, low tech science combined with some form of apparent magic, scavengers, and hints at a recognisable world gone awry. I guess it encompassed many influences from throughout my life, from very early onwards; Star Wars, obviously, Roger and Martin Dean, pirate adventure, Robert Rankin (Pratchett, Tolkien), and many other influences many of which I’m probably not even aware of.
It veered around all over the place in my head for a long time, then I eventually made a start on an actual story (a larger arc is kind of there already, but actual plotting).
Of course, like many things, it’s on something of a hiatus while I focus more on a young family and a demanding job and, should I return, no doubt the whole thing would shift again.
But, if I had unlimited time, and no need to earn money, this is probably the sort of thing I’d drift back to.
