Dancing Groot – Computer Game Development

A project at Seeper taken on behalf of Jollywise Media to help promote the launch of Guardians of the Galaxy 2, Dancing Groot was a Kinect-based experience aimed at the public. Created in Unity, the app ran on booths at shopping centres, and similar places, and allowed the user to control Groot’s dance moves using their own.

The Groot model I modified from assets provided by Framestore, though with a fair bit of additional work to get it running in Unity. I also created all incidental and attract animations, and all other visual elements such as particles, environment, lighting and HUD.

The lighting and background elements reacted to how the user danced, increasing in intensity.
